(Not So) New Shoes

A lot of people assume that if you are slim you must be fit. For anyone under any illusions, this is not true, and I am testament to that. The last time I went anywhere near a gym was before I fell pregnant with my elder daughter, over 4 years ago and since then I have used my children and the "I don't have time" excuse, any time that exercise has been mentioned. So the following is as much of a shock to me as to anyone else.

A week ago Sunday, in a moment of madness I agreed to sign up to run a 10K race. It isn't until mid May but as I haven't participated in any competitive running since junior athletics club (around 15 years ago now) I am feeling somewhat apprehensive about the prospect of having to run 10K, possibly worsened by the fact that amoung the other entrants are my Mum who is uber fit, and regulary competes, and my sister who started her get fit plan a few years ago and now has a couple of 10K's under her belt.

Filled with dread rather than enthusiasm it took me until Saturday to go out for my first training session. Following a training plan devised by my Dad, that sees me taking things VERY easy to begin with, I am hoping to be able to run the entire distance in around 12 weeks time. At the moment I have only run the distance between 2 lamp posts! Wish me luck, I think I'm going to need it.
